PCB Milling updates

Good news... I received my PCB milling cutters yesterday evening and finished my trial cuts last night. Results are very good... happy with the cutters... and the price... Got them from Andrew Abken who's selling it on eBay for USD6/pc...

The cutters as delivered by Andrew. Perfect packaging for the trip of half way across the globe.

Photo of the sample cut made. Isolation gap is approximately 0.2mm. Cut using the Sherline Mill at 6500rpm @ 8ipm. No burrs and very consistent cut. Worth every cent paid...

Here the PCB photo as captured from Cadsoft Eagle (http://cadsoft.de/)
The Gcode for the isolation milling was generated using PCB-GCode script available at Cadsoft website and discussed here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcb-gcode/

BTW, the PCB is a functional PCB of a VHF foxhunt transmitter...

No news means not so good news :-0

I haven't been updating for past two weeks... busy with several things. Tried to design, cut and test iambic pedal but design is so flawed that I'm not too happy with it. Doesn't meet my 'strict' personal satisfaction standards... Will put up the photo later...

Been busy trying out Mach3 and EMC2. Both finally worked as of last night. Now need to fine tune a bit more. My X-Axis is binding at two places, around 2" and 6" from left end. Moving it by hand does not indicate any binding at all but stepper is losing steps and stalling at those two points intermittently. Arrrrgghhhh...

Well, at least something for me to work on next week... :-)

Straight Key for CW

To start exploring my machining skill, I designed and make the following straight key. 100% aluminum except for the screws and the knob. The overall feel is so far so good.... Tension and distance of travel are adjustable...
View from the other side... My main concern now is to learn what cause the jaggered edge and how to fix it... May be related to tool chatter?
